Collection: Cutting Boards and Butcher Blocks
Dumke Designs cutting boards can be edge grain or end grain, with juice grooves or without, and depending on the size may have handholds routed on the sides, or rubber feet attached to the bottom. Edge grain construction means the wood fibers are running lengthwise down the board, which is easier to build, thus less expensive to buy. The term "butcher block" has more rigorous criteria though. Butcher blocks are meant to be heavy and often left out on the countertop rather than put away after each use. Butcher blocks must meet three criteria: 1) Minimum 12" in length and width, 2) minimum of 1.5" thick, and 3) end-grain construction. End grain means the ends of the wood fibers are exposed on the cutting surface, which makes end grain more resistant to cuts and knife scarring. End grain construction takes more time and effort to construct, so they cost more than similar-sized edge grain boards. My boards are all made from durable hardwoods to provide years of service, all while looking great. Consider adding a board stand to your order to display your new functional art and keep it dry, and don't forget the Dumke Designs board butter to make it last and keep it looking it's best!
